INDEPENDENCE DAY
CELEBRATION!
Sunday, July 6
8:00 am and 10:30 am
using the 1662 English Book of Common Prayer
Take a step back in time as we worship as our forefathers did in 1776. The clergy will dress in fashions similar to the 1776 time period. Anyone in attendance is welcomed and encouraged to wear period costumes if they have them.
You will find worship on this Sunday especially moving as we are transported to the mindset of the Anglican' in the Colonies who regularly prayed in this manner: "We beseech thee also to save and defend all Christian kings, princes and governors; and especially thy servant George our King, that under him we may be godly and quietly governed; and grant unto his whole Council, and to all that are put in authority under him, that they may truly and indifferently administer justice, the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of they true religion and virtue." It will be obvious why some of the English Colonists fled to Canada, were of the Tory Party, and other loyal Anglicans became Episcopalians such as George Washington and the majority of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
You will find the similarities and the differences to our worship today striking. We will make a few changes. We will pray for our King President George rather than Elizabeth II. The sermon won't last an hour. We will sing patriotic hymns of the U.S.A.
Please join us for worship and an opportunity for appreciation of our history!
